Hello,
A friend of my father has asked me to sell his collection of coins he was in the grocery business for 45 years and stopped collecting these 20 years ago. ( I get the wheats and the buffalos ) He is from a small town in MN so when coins came into the store it was usually farmers using their horads to buy food as a last resort. He has 8 medium saftey deposit boxes filled with I would guesss over 1500 coins.
He gave me a few to look at and start with. Basically took 10 off the top. Next week we are going to the bank to take a look at them all. I am quite excited.
Here is my question... Am I seeing double... or machine?
1882 Morgan:
1921-S Morgan
1982-S Morgan Different coin
1886 Morgan
1821 S different coin

The 1882 seems to have something strange between the lobes of the first 8. I don't see it on the other 8. It doesn't look like a DDO or strike doubling to me. Is that why you photoed it? For all I know maybe they all have it on the first 8 but maybe someone else would know about it

I saw that Odd looking "8", and hoped someone would provide an explanation, but seems, I am not the only one, wondering!! Catherine, you are one lucky lady! Your cents were great, too Dick

Thank you Dick.. I just wish I knew 1 Cent about a morgan.
I need a new car for Christmas.
Is it an error? Do I have it graded? Whats it worth? Enquiring minds want to know!!
Actually I wish I could get premium price for machine doubling. I seem to find every coin on the planet with machine doubling. I have probaby passed coins with real doubling up many times just to pick out the machine doubling. It's a curse, I will live with. Woo is me.

Catherine, you are as well iformed, or even better, than I, because you have a "handfull". I don't go that route, but you can be sure that there are several members here on the forum, that can, and will point out the answers to your questions. I had no idea, but Looks like Bob, did. If the Machine doublings were worthy of a premium, we would see VERY few, instead of SO many! Regards,
Dick

Catherine - You should really consider learning more about your coins before sending any of them in. You are jumping the gun and that's going to cost you unnecessary money. Give yourself a few months to learn about coins before tossing unnecessary amounts of money at the grading companies.
