Interesting reading, Catherine, but, I would not use them, for the same reason I won't use the SBA, SAC, IKE, the four-bit pieces, and the quarters: too big, and heavy in my pocket! I dump all change as soon as I get home. Later, I check it for whatever, and if nothing shows, it goes into the containers for (nickels, dimes, and quarters), and cents. Thanks for posting the link,
Dick

I think they're doing the presidents in order as they served - will be a long time before they hit the modern ones.
As for their hope that people will spend these--sounds like something the government would do. Instead of facing the real problem and doing something about it, they continue to bring out half witted failure attempts to get people to use coins.
HELLO!!! GET RID OF THE $1 BILL AND PEOPLE WILL SPEND YOUR DAMN COINS!!! How much rocket science does it take to figure that one out?!?!?

If years of other countries examples doesn't show it's valid, nothing anybody can say will do any good.

Everyone is right on cue!
Chuck's right, if they were seriouse they would stop the bills and stop asking what everyone wants.
Catherine is on the money too, the gov saw how everyone saved rolls of quarters and thinks we'll hoard dollars. Since money is like IOUs they think if the public holds them it's de-inflationary and they can make more. 300 million people each hoarding a few rolls of each type is good money. It's like if we made fancy unique neat checks so instead of cashing them people kept them by the hoard, what a deal! Save a full set!
They only do dead people on coins so around 2017 they will be running into live ones... so how would you like to be the president knowing they have a hoard of dollars they can't release until ya kick the bucket to meet the scheduled release... uh oh budget crunch.
Maybe they should use cartoon characters... I'd want a Mickey mouse with giant doubled ears

I was at the gas station today and I was headed over to the bank to drop off 600 in change.. So I pulled out some of the Sacagawea's I got and paid for my pop and smokes... The gal whom I know sorta ( I go there a lot ), said Catherine are things that bad since you got married? I said What? She said, You have to count change to get smokes? Umm no.......... I dont really tell people I have large amount of money laying around my house. You know.....
I lied and said I got them in change somewhere.
Why do people think your poor if you use cahnge that the goverenment WANTS you to use?

What happens if when they approach the modern presidents, there is a dead president with his predesesor still alive? For example, what happens if Pres. Bill Clinton passes away, but George W.H. Bush is still alive? Will they skip Bush Sr and mint a Clinton coin?

I guess I should have read the article more closely, but that just shows you how much I am looking forward to this coin. I am still an old supporter for beautiful coins like some of our older coinage (Liberties, Walkers, etc.) Bring something like that back to the collector/consumer, they may just have something.
