What happens if when they approach the modern presidents, there is a dead president with his predesesor still alive? For example, what happens if Pres. Bill Clinton passes away, but George W.H. Bush is still alive? Will they skip Bush Sr and mint a Clinton coin?

PUBLIC LAW 109–145—DEC. 22, 2005
PRESIDENTIAL $1 COIN ACT OF 2005
SEC. 102 says in part:
LIMITATION IN SERIES TO DECEASED PRESIDENTS.—
No coin issued under this subsection may bear the image
of a living former or current President, or of any deceased
former President during the 2-year period following the
date of the death of that President.

I understand that to mean they would skip a living ex-President and mint a coin for his successor.

I will not buy the first, or any other of the "presidential dollars"! I don't buy commemoratives, and they definitely are much more interesting, and beautiful, than a bunch of ex presidents. In the first place, not all of the EX's are worthy of this type of acknowledgment. Some are more that worthy, and have been seen. The Dollar, Half dollar Quarter, Dime, Nickel, and the lowly cent. Not to mention currency. Many presidents have been honored there. Frankly, I think it is time tio move on, and find something else to honor. There are so many things in our history, that deserve recognition. Why not consider then? My two cents, copper, not zinc, please!

ED, I was thinking the same, but looking at it, from a different angle! Clinton, and the "Oval office scenario", How about Carters brother representing a foreign nation? This more or less, has been the laughing stock of the world, but the one that did us the lowest blow of all was FDR, when he took us off the gold standard, and later the silver backing for the dollar became zinc cents, aluminium cents, even cardboard was considered. Before it became legal to have gold, again, I had gold dust, and chunks, that I got prospecting. I still have it.
I respected Mexico for their money, even the lowest Peso had silver, Ley 0.100, but silver. Then the coinage went to hell in a handbasket, and the US coinage is sliding on the same slippery slope! Not to worry, one day we won't have to worry about coinage, because all financial activities will be plastic, or worse, a chip imbedded in the head, or somewhere else! Then we collectors will have to collect ???
