Wow Dick! The last post on this thread until yours was over 2 years ago. Not only don't I have that type microscope anymore, but my entire photography set-up is different. By the way, I found that spanner wrench....after I got another scope and sold the old one.

I found placing a doubled rubber band on both sides of the barrels keeps the drifting to a minimum until you need to adjust the rubber band again. Works for me.

It was on this thread, that I was informed as to how I could keep my QSZ from drifting, and fixed it. Thanks to whoever it was! It just goes to show that the posts are not only kept, but are read, as well! I spent the best part of the day, yesterday, reading the posts Coop has made, in an effort to fimd out what I can about my new Photoshop 7.0 program. I want to make overlays for each year, and the mints concerned, so that they will be available for clsahed die reference.

Dick: Most years in a row are the same pattern of the dies with different dates. There are a few exceptions to that pattern. But remember proofs also. But usually most memorials and wheats overal. all have the same pattern with little differences. The die clashing usuall happens on the fields and the higher edges of the die in the middle of the pattern. You could make the series, but you will find that to be true that most patterns are the same for the clash marks. But get comfortable with program. You never know what new thing you might find that all could benefit from.

Coop, and Steven, I agree it can be a big job, but if it provides someone with concrete proof tha the clash occurred, rather that striations, and/or scratches, in the same area, then the work will be worth the time, and effort.
I had the idea for this, because I know that the Bust, and other devices have changed, due to numerous reasons, and changes over the years, that have resulted in a smaller bust, overall, among other things. Thgis I noticed when I compared some of the clashed photos, and compared them with the few overlays that have been available. The show the different areas that the clash has involved, and it is not notable, without several comparisions. My first clue was when I posted my first clash, on the forum. It has the nose involved in the bay. Most of the others show the nose below the area of the bay, involved. Now you know why I want to get this done, a few, at least.
