And it ain't cheap. I needed something to do better whole coin shots, so I went with an SLR, a Nikon D-80 with a 50mm macro lens, a copy stand, two 1GB SD cards, a remote shutter release, and a wireless shutter release. Total for the package was just shy of $1500....but worth it in quality.
This photo set was taken of an 1892 indian cent, NGC MS64BN in the slab. I've never come close to this with slabbed coins.

Nice!
If you can get that pic of a coin with that color in a holder it's great!

Oh, and this is about a tenth the size of the original images. Mind blowing what today's cameras will do!

AWESOME CLARITY
VERY SHARP IMAGE!
I have a feeling you will be VERY happy w/ your purchase!
I just bought a new camera as well.
But mine is a Pentax K1000 35mm
w/ 135mm lens & 2X converter.
GREAT for portraits & landscape,
but not much for macro.

Wow. Those photos are unbelivable. And motivating. Makes you want to collect copper coins....and photograph them. Beautiful job.

OUTSTANDING!
Are you shooting in 1600 or 2400?

Umm....neither? I'm not sure what you're asking.
I'm shooting in fine mode, which gives me images that are approximately 3,850 pixels wide. It's a 10MPX camera.
Thing is, the coins in the pictures are only taking up about a fifth of the frame. If I moved the camera down some, I would get much bigger images, but the lighting wouldn't work out well...which is the key to the whole thing.

I meant the size.
1600 X 1200 For example.
I'm sure you are going to LOVE that camera!
I use a 4MP camera for my coin shots,
but I don't get good results.

Very well done on the photos Chuck. The lighting seems to be perfect. Are you only able to take full coin photos with that new camera? I gather that's what you bought it for.
