I read an article in Coin World a few days ago concerning a DD reverse for the 2003 Lincoln cent....I figured this was the place to find out!! According to the article , the doubling was found at the bases of the columns on the Lincoln Memorial on the reverse with some showings of "trails" on the designers initials....what are the trails??????

Report has it that the die suffered from class 4 offset hub doubling, and the doubling shows toward the south. The "trails" as I am imagining things would have to be remnants of the designers initials to the south of the pronounced, or primary designers initials. That's about the best explanation I can come up with.

I have one of the 1994 cents that suffers from this same type of doubling, and I understand there are other years that have the same thing. This entire group may end up receiving their own class of doubling once someone can come up with a good explanation of what causes it.
