OK- I had to run this one by for the heck of it. Sometimes we see what we want to see, so forgive me for stretching beyond the plausible if that's the case.

Take a peek at these. Noticed some interesting raised surface in the field to the lower right of mint mark. Likely just coincidental raised surfaces from gas bubbles or something, but the slight curature of the one near the D, coupled with a small area against the rim made me halucinate a possible second D image Shocked .

I realize this year often had bubbled surfaces. An overlay will likley put this to rest, but I thought I'd run it out there anyway!! Thanks

Coppersleuth, from the photos, I would say it is just gas bubbles, and over toward the rim appears to be a bit of "rim-ridge". otherwise, nothing to consider.

I agree with Dick's assessment. Just a note on 1989D coins...there are a few nice doubled dies for this year (extra thickness on the date, and reverse extra thickness as well. In addition, I am finding many RPMs. Take a good look at all 1989D coins. You may be pleasantly surprised at what you find.

Speaking of 1989 Lincoln cents, there is a new find that is transitional. Seems that a 1988 obverse was found with a 1989 reverse.

How can you tell?

It is in the "G" of the designer's initials.

For pictures go to "varietyvista.com" and then "design varieties"
