Coppersleuth, from the photos, I would say it is just gas bubbles, and over toward the rim appears to be a bit of "rim-ridge". otherwise, nothing to consider.

I agree with Dick's assessment. Just a note on 1989D coins...there are a few nice doubled dies for this year (extra thickness on the date, and reverse extra thickness as well. In addition, I am finding many RPMs. Take a good look at all 1989D coins. You may be pleasantly surprised at what you find.

Speaking of 1989 Lincoln cents, there is a new find that is transitional. Seems that a 1988 obverse was found with a 1989 reverse.
How can you tell?
It is in the "G" of the designer's initials.
