From the front page of "Coin Worlds" This fictional account sums up conversations about indexing and first spouse gold coins:

August 2, 2207

Bob Piazza VI, Auction Director in the firm of Heritage, Spectrum, Stacks and Bowers, announced today the sale of the only known circulated example of the 2007 Martha Washington First Spouse gold coin. The price was a staggering $100 million dollars and represents the highest price paid for an EF-45 coin in history. The coin came out of the estate of Charles Daughtrey IV, a recluse, who, it is reported, pried open a closet door in the old family home and was crushed by several boxes of Lincoln Wheat cents that had been stored there for over 200 years. The coin was found in the pile of copper and may have been a pocket piece from an ancestor of Mr. Daughtrey.

The coin generated widespread interest, because like all other 21st century proof coins, all other known examples of the Martha Washington First Spouse gold coins are certified proof 69 DCAM. All known examples are contained in the curious PCGS plastic holders and sell for gold bullion value, which currently is 50 cents an ounce. PCGS was a 20th century third party grading service until it fell into the sea during the great California Earthquake of 2108. History buffs will recall that the California Hummer Collectors Society came up with a variety tracking system and PCGS was the first to attempt to encapsulate whole Hummers. As cars were stored in the back lot, they fell into the San Andreas fault and triggered an earthquake that sent the entire state into the sea.

Mr. Piazza said the buyer wishes to remain anonymous, but intends to hold the coin (literally) until he is sure he can sell it as the most valuable VG-8 coin in history.

I'll have to have a talk with my great great great grandson about this as soon as he is born. I would have gotten 150 million at least Laughing

Thanks for the news-gram Garry. It's been a terrible week dealing with some family problems, and this certainly made me smile.

Funny how things change over time.

For years the best coin collections had to be cleaned, even most museums cleaned their collections.

In 100 years they might be saying how many nice coins there would be if all the nice ones were not put in plastic which over decades contaminated the coins.

You can't improve a coin, the best thing to do is store them well and leave them alone!

I didn't realize we had such nobility here. I should have said please when I sent that package. Oh well, with the price of gold, and now, the encapsulation of hummers, I guess we will get used to it, if we live long enough! Hope everything works out to your complete satisfaction. may your nights be clear, and starry, the days cool, and fresh, and your bankroll swell exponentially!.
