Even though it is bent, banged up, worn down, and cruddy I thought I would mention that it took me a bit by surprize to find it in a roll of cirulated Lincolns yesterday.

Steven, that is a surprise! I expect to seethe zinc cents looking like that, but I'm sure they would NOT "still" be identifiable as what they are, after the time they had been buried as long as this one was, before some metal detector brought it to light, again. Just looking at the photos, I woud say, about AU. Almost Un-identifiable! LOL
Was that link you gave me you, or family? It brought back happy memories!

That coin looks BU... But Ugly.
Really neat find by the way. I think the oldest coin I have found in circulation rolls is a 1920's wheat cent.

Too bad it is such bad shape. It would have been pretty awesome to find one of those in better condition, Either way, it is a nice find.

Looks like a coin that was dug up. It appears to have shovel marks on the rim.

Coop, I forgot to mention that there were four IHC's in the roll, with the 1909-VDB: 1891, 1903, (2), 1907. One of them has a very large die crack on the "liberty side of the obv. Takes up most of the left half of the coin.

Dick: I enjoy those classic looking coins. The large cents Flying eagle. Nice to see them in all their glory. Even in circulated condition they are still nice.

Coop, they are beauties, that is for sure! I'm glad I was born while they were still found in pocket change! I get them in "found-in-rolls", in fact that is where all my foreign coins come from, now. I only seek the US coinage, that is that which I an afford. It is rough having a rich mans hobby, and a poor mans bank account. Oh well, next time it will be different. I'll collect bottle caps! You know, the ones that came in the milk bottle, that was pushed up, and out when the cream got cold!

GarryN, as much as I was admiring the photo. I didn't even see that until you mentioned it! It sure is, the first "E", and both "C"', and "O".
I collect the IHC, but only as a side effect from the rolls.
