I apologize in advance if I mangle the variety designation!!!
I was looking through my old lincolns and I THINK i found a 09 vdb doubled die in among them!!!
Conventional wisdoms says otherwise, as there are 57 total doubled dies spread between 1909 svdb and 1909 vdb as best as I can find out.
Here is the question: if this is a doubled die, and it's about mint 58 or 60, how much should I assume it's worth, and does anyone have better information on how many are really out there?
Thanks in advance, and all apolitical replies are welcomed. Question

I don't know where you came up with the 57 total doubled dies for 1909 VDB and SVDB. I am aware of only two...maybe 3 doubled dies for 1909 VDB. Those varieties are listed on coppercoins.com, and can give you an approximate value if one of your coins is indeed a doubled die. Here is the link. Each narrative will tell you whether or not the variety is on the VDB or non-VDB reverse.

Bob, I used the link and was suprised to see that the first coin listed was an 1865 IHC! I wasn't aware that you were attributing IHC's. Are there any plans to start in future. It would make the site that much more complete. Steve

Steve,
There are so many different ways to improve on the site, and that includes ultimately attributing Indian Head Cents, Large cents, Flying eagle cents etc. In fact, anything copper from the US.
As with anything concerning attributions, it is imperative to find someone who knows the coins well, and is able to do that for us. Sooner or later, it will happen.

He points out that my penny shows the signs of machine doubling, and goes to YOUR SITE (egads!) to show me an example that mirrors mine (he is in the business for 40 years), and I have to agree. So I'll keep searching, and probably get ya'lls guide, so I can get "schooled". Wink
