WOW!
I don't think I've been looking at the reverses on and 82 cents so I better go look for this bad boy!
It also seems to be a queen for the big king 83 DDR, interesting since they seem to make several smilar doubled dies at certain time periods. They must have been going crazy at the mint creating 7 types of cents in 82!
I wonder if any dies were used on both zinc and copper? Could there be a copper SD like it?
I gotta go.... that's go look at some 82 SD cents!

Great find but wouldn't you know that it had to be a zinc small date. Those rolls were already very, very expensive and now the're going to be scarce as hens teeth. I wouldn't be suprised to see these rolls going for more than $50 real soon. Steve

Few things...
First, it is possible that they could have minted different metals with this die. It is also possible that it could have been paired with a large date die at some point, but that possibility is rather remote.
Second, 1982P SDZ rolls are already at $100....so the chance they'll go above $50 is pretty good.
Third, rarely does a single doubled die find make roll prices jump. So much of the roll price world revolves around high grade coins in slabs, a new doubled die find rarely has a lot to do with how much rolls are.
And fourth, welcome Ziggy9...sorry to have stolen your thunder, but when I posted this you hadn't even requested to be a member here. I like to make announcements on the site where it might be possible that everyone could miss the news otherwise.

Richard,
Welcome to the site and you did start with a grand find that most folks can not match. It will give you a good reason to keep looking.
It also reminds me that so much value is added to this hobby by people like Richard that add to the list of what we can search for and to CD and Bob for helping spread the news and giving everyone of us great inputs on everything and putting so much effort into this site.
Hats off to Richard and to CD & Bob!!!!!

That is a huge doubled die, and an AWESOME find! I can't believe that it went undiscovered for so long. It goes to show that every date is just as important to search as another. I have been guilty of not searching some dates because no doubled dies are known for those years.
I guess I have learned my lesson.. Search every coin!

I cant believe it I actually think i have 1 and will have to start searchin my tubes of unidentified again. Not to mention it gives me a reason to break open some of the 450+ bw rolls of 82p that i have. Even if it turns up not to be that 1 the way the doubling on UNITED STATES of AMERICA is at least similar to what i have. But i havnt looked at that coin for 4 years+. Now what tube is it in. Bein as lazy as me i find them tube them and attribute them at a later date. Needless to say that i have almost 4 50 tube boxes of unattributed rpms and doubled dies. Let the hunt begin. And also let me mention what a great find.
When that hits the press i bet the trend on 82 rolls goes up substantually
Eric

The October 8 issue of Coin World has an article about this coin. Chuck and the CopperCoins website (along with Bill O'Rourke, author of the "Found in Rolls" column in CW and who also is a poster here) are mentioned.
Thanks again Ziggy! This is big!
