Monster 1985D roll

Hi Folks,
You know that 1980s era RPMs are difficult to find in the best of times. How about this roll I bought for $1.00 at a flea market today. This was a bank wrapped roll of 1985D coins. Take I look at what I found in there! Mind you..this is in only 1 roll!

This is RPM-001 and I Found 3 of these!

This is RPM-004 and I found 2 of these!

This may be RPM-008 and I found 2 of them!

Definitely not a bad haul for a buck! I also bought an 88D roll, an 89D roll, and an 87D roll, but have found nothing in those yet. A few more rolls to go through yet, and then I will attribute these and add them to the site soon.

I just finished adding these to the site. I ended up with 3 known varieties, and 3 new ones. You can see them all in the 'New Additions' section, or under 1985D.

I still consider myself a rookie and don't have 1/100th the experience as many of you -- but it does seem that good luck often comes in batches. What I mean is -- you search through BU roll after BU roll and find nothing -- then when you do find a roll with die varieties -- you often find multiple types in the same rolls. I searched many 2005 D 1c rolls -- with lots of nothing to show for it. Then I got some rolls that had 3 different column doubled DDRs in various quantities throughout. I had searched rolls of 2005 OIV and Bison nickels from 100 sources - never finding any business strike DDO varieties. Then I got some rolls with 3 different minor OIV DDOs -- having more coins with a DDO than not.

I guess it stands to reason that some guy at the mint 'messing' the dies up could be responsible for a number of problem dies used at the same time and place. So as rare as 1980's 1c RPMs are -- perhaps it is no coincidence that different versions existed in the same rolls.
