For all of you who are wavy step enthusists, here is one that I have been waiting for.

Now don't be disappointed because you do not see step deviation. Take a look at the top of the left urn and you will see a "trail" line from its top. This is the direction of movement, about 330 degrees. Notice that the top 2/3 of the stairs are mushy while the bottom 1/3 are not.
The reason behind no deviation is that the columns do not come into play (actually it is the base of the columns that forms the lines that for the deviation in the steps).

Further indication of the direction is shown on the tops of the columns and there is a faint line from the top of Lincoln.

The EPU shows basically the same direction with some distortion on the letter tops and ramped extension into the field.

Both UNITED and STATES show some "humping" on top of the letters. This is another indicator of "trails".

This is an important die for it is the first reverse direction wavy step that I have come across. It is now in the files as 1999P-1DER-043T. This die also adds to the ever increasing list of facts that wavy steps are trails and NOT DOUBLED DIES..

If they aren't doubled dies, then what causes them?
