My thanks goes to Steven for letting me attribute some of his wavy steps and trails. Out of the nine he sent, six turned out to be new dies and will be added to the DEO/DER files for this year (which will be released early next year).
The first die, which is obviously on a 1996 Lincoln cent, has trails from the date with an offset direction of 050 degrees.
The second obverse die is on a 1999 Lincoln cent. The trails are on LIBERTY, the most common design element affected by this anomaly on the obverse die. The offset direction is 340 degrees.
Please remember that I am always interested in looking at this particular die type anomaly, especially if it is on other denominations other than the Lincoln cent.
Thanks.

Are these considered double dies? From a novice perspective I would pass right over these thinking they were just similar to wheaties with die cracks, breaks, a bad strike or other anomolies.

Without going into a very long story, no they are not doubled dies, however, they are what is called a design extension. They are the same anomaly as wavy steps.
By years end, there will be an in depth article, hopefully in ERRORSCOPE, on just what forms wavy steps and trails, when it happens and how it happens.

Okay Steven - How are you making these?????
I'm only kidding you for it would be impossible to do so.
That is another great find and at an unusual offset direction. Is it possible to send this one to me?
The others are on their way back to you along with the COIN WORLD article concerning your find (1988D transitional cent)
Thanks Steven and congratulations on another very nice discovery.

BJ,
I will be glad to send it. Let me look through a couple more boxes that i have here. Not sure how long that will take me though. If I find any more I will include them.

BJ,
I sent you another package today. I tried to match them up with your listings but couldn't find those. I did match up about a dozen though. I'm still looking and still finding a few.
Sometimes when I find a nice die I get this look on my face drool and all

Great one Steven and it is new to the files. You sure are finding them and I am begining to wonder just how many of these anomalies are out there.
I had an original estimated that about 700 would be found, however, at this rate, that figure may soon be reached. What is interestiing aboyut this trail die is that it is from the Denver die shop and directly ties the two operating single squeeze systems (one in Denver and the other in Philadelphia) together. They are producing the same type anomaly. I bet few have thought of that.
Thanks again Steven and a very nice find.

BJ, and the boys, I was just thinking about asking if there had been any trails found "Way out west, where nothing happens", when Steven posted his 1998-D. It, and the others shown are real clear, (I can see them!). Nice finds. I have just finished the two boxes for the project, and now I can search theu them for ONE, maybe more. The only ones that were looked at, were the principlal ones requested. Now I can check the rest. Wish me luck. I haven't had any lately. Well that is not a true statement. I had a birthday, 10/31/07, and my brother, and two sisters came over for a visit. Knowing they were coming, I took advantage of the situation, and asked them to bring four boxes from the North-Central area, and from different banks. The same was requested from the Phoenix, (Southern AZ). They brought the 8 boxws, and accepted the money, as was stipulated when I asked. Then the day they were going to leave, they reeturned my money, and said, "in view of the facr, we didn;'t know what to give you for your birthday present, we decidec this is what you would like the mosy". I was very surprised, and told them I would report their generousity to the project manager, in case there were an blank areas in AZ. Maybe I could run a couple boxes from that area. It goes without saying that I'll be looking for some trails!
Please excuse extra letters, etc, as I have losr my central, or frontal vision., in other words, I am legally blind. No symhathy, please. While I am "hopeless, I am not helpless. I can be, and probably am still a pain....

Steven, that is a nice find! Now tell me what is a -1DER-028T. I assume it identifies trails, but by whom? We use the =-1Dtr, or something similar, but I don't inderstand the "DER. "R"= reverse, but the "E"?
Cconfused, (as usual).
