Noticed this at the back of Abe's collar, looks to me like its part of his collar, also the hair looks ummm...messy Laughing Is this a bit of a clash or other anomaly?

I don't quite know what that could be. It does look like it originated at the mint though. It may be gouges of some sort on the hair. The mark behind the neck almost looks like a plating error. I do not believe this to be the result of a clash.

Here is a different shot Bob, it shows the beard line also and it is incomplete compared to the other 97p's that I looked through.

Sandra, I was hoping you would post a larger profile. It doesn't show any clash damage, or repair. My guess is GREASE-filled die. Bob?

The weak beard is common in those years, often they have some incomplete hair or beard so you sort of see the flat incomplete areas.

The neck/collar area are subject to heavy cleaning from die clashes. When the heavy cleaning happens to much on an area the same heith as the field, the shallow part of the die disappears. The deep part of the die is usually not touched during cleanings, but I have see scratches made the ends of the wire brush. But in this case the devices for the collar/neck area has been removed.

The only thing I can say about this coin is that it is NOT a clash. there are certain spots that show the effect, (damage) of the clash, and in this case, there is none, No 'cleaning" is evident.

I tend to disagree with you Dick on the "no cleaning" evident. Look at the first picture and you can see fine scratch lines around Lincon's hair line.

The "missing" parts are more than likely a combination of die wear and die cleaning.
