I just found this 1944 D/D it looks like it could be a 1MM-002? I do see the secondary D to the West as well as the North, I noticed while searching this website that the picture of the 1MM-002 shows the D to the North and I can't see if it shows to the West in the picture?
Not my best pictures..sorry!

I think you got it right as #2.
The west part is the doubling of the vertical bar west of the primary vertical bar of the D. (on it's left side)

I don't think it is 1944D-1MM-002, but it looks more like 1944D-1MM-010 to me. I know the one on the site is a MDS example and the orange RPM book shows a LDS example. They look different from each other, but the RPM got stronger on the LDS than on the MDS example. The reason I conclude that both the MDS & LDS are the same die is this: If you look at the examples of the two, there is a small die crack that shows from the mint mark to the 4 in the date on both examples. I think that Ron's coin has this, but I'm not one hundred percent positive from his image. But it appears that way from what I can see. Ron if you have the die crack there it maybe 010. On the example you have you can see the top inside loop peaking over the mint mark. 002 doesn't from what I can see.
1944D-1MM-010:
Also check for the marker listed on the site, it should be there.

1944D-1MM-002
Note the loop missing on 002 and your coin shows it?
http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1944&die_id=1944d1mm002&die_state=mds
Check markers for both examples and see which one looks closer to your coin. There should be a strong die crack across the bust on your coin if it is 010.

Coop,
Seems like on #2 you can see the open center of the weaker D barely above the primary. It shows in the pic. I don't see that on 1MM-010. That's why I think it's 2.
I'm looking at one I have and it's different yet. LOL. Maybe you can tell me what you think it is (maybe 1MM-014).

Coop,
Could this be 1MM-014? (yes pics not great)
On most 1944 cents the bottom tail of the 4 has a tiny spike going east/right which I think is master doubling but on this variety it has 2 of those spikes which I also see on the listing of 1MM-014.
I don't see any matching markers to any listed variety.

Ed: The reason the markers didn't match on your coin and die 014 is this: They came from different dies.
The spreads are different and the locations are different from 014. It took an overlay and grid to show the different locations. The example I had was a MDS coin and you can barely see the RPM North, but it is there. I check one of the markers and its a match to my coin.
But your coin is from another die. Probably listed as the spread was stronger than 014. So the search continues.

I could see the difference in spread would be a problem, but the location was the determining factor to me. Sometimes the spread can be enhanced with die wear. But locations of mint marks don't move.

Coop, I tried to edit the post, but keep timing out, so here is the comment: I saw the008, and it looks close, but the gridding the Coop did makes my "1960 system" obsolete!. Comments?

Coop - the two photos are tilted at much different angles from one another in your overlay comparison. The only way to get an overlay to work is to either photograph the coins at the same angle or to stretch one image so that the date matches up perfectly between both coins in your grid, THEN compare the mintmark position.
I can tell by the shape of the 9 and the position of the end of the tail of the 9 that your overlay isn't right.

Chuck,
You are right about the image.
It's from my image having distortion not Coops, his is flat.
The reason is that I still use a loupe on a camera so I need to use an angle or my camera blocks my light so my pics always have some distortion from that angle.
On a limited budget lately and not getting better
