I agree that it was a pretty hard clash Dick. Any time you see clash marks to that extent, I would think that the opposite die would have had to be changed. Any more clash marks or polishing on the obverse?

Bob, it is very heavily abraided around the entire profile, down to the collar, and nearly to the date,, in front. The field on the rev is also heavily abraided below the memorial bulding. From the severity, it must have been a miltiple strike. I have another coin similar to this one, but the bay, (bay 1), has what looks like it had shattered, similar to this one. It was an older coin. I'll have to look for it.

There were plenty of severe clashes on 1983 and 1984 Lincoln cents. That is one of the reasons that if you can ever find a nice clean 1983 cent, with a nice surface to boot (plenty of gas bubble defects that year), it would be worth a nice premium.
