On most years that would be a possible. But on 1979-D Cents there was a bad punch used and a lot of the Cents show this same damaged punch. So its just a normal coin from that year. _________________ Richard S. Cooper

Machine doubling can happen on any die whether a regular or variety die. I have one coin that is 1/2 Doubled on the right half and 1/2 machine doubled on the left 1/2 of the reverse. So it can happen on any die, any coinage, any denomination. Some years are more prone to them than others, but happen all the time. The mints don't even consider them out of tollerance. The larger coins finding one without machine doubling is harder finding them with it. It happens........ _________________ Richard S. Cooper
