Just curious if the rim (collar) terminology??? on this should have the extra crease all the way around? Hope you can see from the image what I'm referring to.

Not sure how much of the rim overlaps on the Canadian coins. But the die must com close to make the edge dots (Sorry, can't think of the proper term right now.) If would probably best best to see an off Center coin and see where the pattern of the die leaces off and the rim marks stop.

I think the word you're thinking of is "denticles"--from the Latin for "teeth". I should find one of my "slightly MAD" coins to show what happens. Laughing

Here is a close up of the rim and then a shot of one that doesn't have the double edge to it. I'm not sure if its anything at all, but the other 4 1940's I have are smooth around the rim like the second image.

Coop, in this xase the term is "beads, large, or small, but beads".
I should clarify, that KurtS, is also correct with his term. Denticles, are the "snaggle-toothed" edging around the coin, depending on the edge design that is "proper" for that date.

I believe Sanra refers to the rim condition, and I'm not sure of the cause, but is similar to the type thing that happens on our cents, and I believe it to be a collar problem.

I like the teeth better than the dots. LOL Maybe part of the reason I like the Indian Head Cents also.
