Many understand the concept of RPMs. They were hand punched to the dies before using them from the Denver and San Francisco mints until 1990. Then they added the Mint marks to the master dies and there wouldn't be any more RPMs since. But some have asked: What does the directions mean? N/S/E/W/tilted/rotated? So I've prepared a a couple of helpers that should answer those questions from new ones. I thought they might appreciate this.
See if this helps?

What a great guide!
I particularly like those S and N D/S examples...I keep hoping I'll someday find one!

Oh right! I just don't recognize the dates...is the 4th on the very top from the 70s? Nice RPM!
Is there a North by Northwest RPM?

Coop,
Thank you very much for the guide. I was in the process of making one myself to post here, but yours is so much better. Thanks again!

Bob: I always try to pre-guess a need for information. Then I make it. It's just what I do.
Kurt: Correct on the 1970-D. As far as a N-NW, I don't think there is any that I can recall. Very few NW ones. Here is one That I've seen under my scope.

Not the same coin, but from the same die. The mark on the curve upward was missing. But it was from that same die.
Gription: They may not have come outright and asked that question. But I knew they were thinking when the terms were used.

Coop, thanks! I'll check that out...I really like that one!
Btw, my N-NW comment was an off-hand reference to a famous movie...my sense of humor, I'm afraid!

I think professor Coop is due to receive an honorary Dr of Coins degree from the Universtiy of Coppercoins. Nice job.
I copied the RPM Directions image, printed it out and posted it over the desk where I search my wheaties. Other than the complaint it will generate from my wife for taping this to the wall, it is greatly appreciated.
