Reprocessed cents question

OK first off I'm not expecting that I have anymore than an experimental coin. I found a 1956D that has the same shiney appearance as a 1943 reprocessed cent. Question is was there ever an occurance where another date was mistakenly reprocessed? Also was it the mint that reprocessed the cents (sorry if the question seems stupid) I'm just curious and know very little about the reprocessing. The 56D is definately copper it shows through where it appears someone was scraping it to see what lie underneath.

daggit, does it look like it has been chromed? There have neen a lot of them done that way, and then sold on ebay as "silver cents". You will also find other denominations chrimed. I consider the "chroome-job" the same as the "gold-plated" quarters, a big waste iof time, and the likely ruin of a potential variety, or RPM, IMHO, frankly I thing it is rather stupid.

Could be a mercury coated cent. It's my understanding that before the fact came out that mercury was less than good for one's health, people would coat cents in it for fun.

Thank you both for your replys and it really looks to be chrome buy am still curious if there are answers to my two questions. And I agree Dick, whatever the alterations made be it gold plating, chrome etc. it takes away the appeal.

If it has enough chrome on it, it might me moved a little from a magnet. Possibly moved to fall over when the coin is standing upright. It probably won't pick it up, but it might be moved to show there is some steel in the plating. If it sticks hard, then it is a steel planchet.
Another possiblilty could be a wrong planchet, lets say a dime ued in place of the cent, but the coin would need to be examined to see if the letters fall over the rim, which doesn't happen often on a Cent on a dime planchet. But it would be off center and show the affect. Mercury in time will turn black unless it was recently coated.
