I'm pretty sure I see notching on 9's, especially second 9. What happened to make the tops of these #'s flat? There doesn't seem to be any damage that might have caused it.
Thanks, Teryble

Tery,
The 'flatness' on some of these coins can be from ejection damage, or just plain wear. Sometimes, there could be a small amount of grease on the die that might produce an effect like this. I think I see what you are referring to as far as the notching, but I don't think it is much of anything.

Tery: It seems that you are going through what all new ones experience. First you don't see anything. You finally find something. Then you search too hard on regular coins for something that isn't there. Varieties may at time be hard to find. But they should jump out at you when you do find them. When you spot one you should know instantly what it is. Here is an example: I just finished searching a box of circulated Cents when almost the last roll I found this Cent.

I knew instanly what I had found. The only doubled die I found was in the last couple of rolls. Sometimes you don't find even that. But they should be easy to spot or your looking too hard for something that's not there. Doubling should make the devices enlarged. sometimes with notching or with extra width. If it has neither it is just probably a normal Cent that had a bad day or was not created equal because of a circumstance. If it is a variety, the die was hubbed differently than a regular die. Here are a few more examples on what I'm talking about.
You might want to grab a beer or two. The more the beer the more the doubling. Enjoy. Sorry lots of pictures, but a lesson in every one.

Are those all your coins, just looked at a few so far, but very nice examples. I know it will be the one I do not post that will be "special". If I drink beer, will I see wavy steps and trails also Laughing
Thanks for all the hard work and input, very much appreciated!
Teryble

Tery: Most of them are. Some images I borrowed as educational images. Most I found, some I bought. But each image speaks volumes.
Beer? I seldom touch it. Mainly when I'm at home. When I do karaoke I drink just Cola drinks. Enjoy it here when it is over 100 degrees, which it did yesterday. Just life in the desert.
The main purpose for educational images are just that, for education. I'm not a teacher but enjoy the benefits when a new student learns. All benefit.

After looking at these images, I think I have been looking in a totally different direction. Especially the ones where to an untrained eye......Look like the top of digits etc. appear to be eroded or scratched when they are more or less stacked upon each other. I'm getting it, the pics are great and show a wide variety of DD! You should put a book together!
Thanks again!
Tery

I've been kicking a few ideas around. But it seems like most subjects have been covered a few times. I have even a title for it. But realized it says nothing new, but has some nice ideas for imaging.
