Been awhile and my picture taking skills are real rusty but am curious about this one. Does it require a look Bob or is it another hopeful but no cigar Laughing I see some doubling but is it the "keepable" kind Wink

Sandra, my "peepers are pretty well pooped out, and getting porous", but I only see MD, and it is not Muscular Distrophy.

Dick is right. It's not a DDO.

But keep looking, there is a nice 95-D DDO out there someplace waiting to be found. Very Happy

Well, this might sound a bit odd, but that's not machine doubling. Not everything that's doubling and NOT a doubled die is machine doubling.

Since they've been making cents out of zinc there have been issues with "shadow doubling" caused by die wear. It's odd and looks strange, but that's what it is. Simple die wear, and I can pull you out an example in every cup of change I go through.

Most notably it is actually entrenched in the coin, lower than the field. That cannot be machine doubling. It runs generally outward, and is only noted on coins that have signs of die wear in the fields - long die flow lines. Secondly, the field is generally a bit uneven on these coins. Another sign of die wear, and one of the leading causes of this form of doubling.

But now, it's not a doubled die, and it's not machine doubling (die bouncing, chatter, strike doubling, eject doubling).

Chuck, would the term "flat-field doubling" qualify here?

I don't think so, I believe that's machine doubling.

This is simple die wear. No other term really applies.
