looks like a die chip in the first bay but i dont see where it could have chipped from as everything else looks to be in order, it seems odd that a piece could chip out in that spot but i dont know much about die chips. This is a 2008-P for reference. Sorry for the crap pics i cant shoot shiny copper to save my life!

EDITED TO ADD...actually i can see how it could chip the field between the columns...seems like it would be a weak spot in the die, guess they used the dies ALOT this year, i have one in another post that shows a nice die crack through the C in America from the rim to the building it is also a 2008-P

I do beleive your right. I have read on this forum where since 2004 and before that the dies used are quicker to fatigue than dise used in earlier years. I haven't looked thru my 08 coins yet, I will soon.

TY on LIBERTY fall in that area and I believe when they clash, they start a crack/chip/break senerio. They get real ugly the longer they are used.

Oh, by the way: Are you taking you images out doors? You might like to find an area that has reduced lighting. You know, not shade/not in the sun. Then you will get better images. Maybe a diffuser to reduce the stronger light and light without shining of the devices.Maybe a screen made out of cardboard that folds in the center with two windows that you can cover with plastic grocery bags. That way it still lets in the light, but doesn't make the devices shine so strong. Let me know if that is the case and if it works for you.

i take all my pictures on my kitchen counter at night with the overhead recessed lights on, i try different settings with my camera and i could only bring out the clash with the flash on. I have no setup for my camera but would LOVE to learn how to make on to shoot decent pics.

The Photography section has a few ideas and what you need to get these better images. First I wouldn't use the flash. That adds too much light. I find just taking normal photos of people you get better color when you are further away and use the zoom to get away from the flash and allow the color to come in. But on coins, that won't work. The flash is almost on top of the coin when it flashes. So try using an over head light to get the light you need without the flash. Don't use the zoon as that will not allow a clear image that you want. The best setup I like to use is the shooting through a scope to get a full shot on dimes and Cents. But a macro camera will get you as close to a coin as you want. My camera I can get within 1-2 inches away from the coin. Two inches seem better as the light/color/focus seems to work better at that distance with my camera.
