This is kind of an unusual Lincoln cent. First, it has the generic offcenter strike, however, there are two more conditions that make it even more unusual.
There are a series of three die clashes found in Bays 7 and 8 that make things a bit interesting. While a triple die clash is far from unheard of, it is the shape that has me wondering; it does not fit any configuration on the obverse of the Lincoln cent.
There is one more baffling aspect to this coin that I'll leave to later on. Coop, do you have any ideas on this die clash?

BJ,
The clash looks to be the area of the neck and chin.

I have it figured out. It was the fourth clash that was throwing me off (in bay # 8 next to the stairs). They are all associated with the neck and the beard. Thanks Steven.

BJ, THAT IS A VERY INTERESTING COIN! NOT ONLY THE OFF-CENTER, AND THE CLASHES as well. It is the same type of clash that is the first one I had seen, and popsted, wanting to know what it was. mine is not as spectascular, in that it is a single clash. Nice find, and the offcenter is even more interesting. I didn't find any remnants on the obv. maybwe the obv die was changed out, prior to this series of clashes.

I made an image/overlay and first thought it was a triple clash. Got the image ready to post and Steven mentioned a quad clash. Well, I went back and re-did the overlay and guess what? I can see where it is a double clash. something we hadn't figured in was the bow tie. That made the third clash mark in the bay. See if this helps to see it better? Also it looks like one clash happend they tried to remove the marks past the column and distorted that area near the right planter column.

Steven, I like that idea, too. I might try, also.

Coop, is that MD on the overlay? I just noticed it. Nope! I see what you are pointing out. Two clash relarionships. So a double-overlay is required.

Coop, I mentoined that I hadn't seen any remnants on the obverse, but I just found out that there is a strong left end of the memorial building, ouit away, but directly in front of Lincolns mouth and chin. The "bars" are not so prominant, as in other cents, but they are also visible. maybe it is due to the off-center strike, making the difference in pressure in that area.

Tery: I use an older version of Photoshop, a lot of imagination and the willingness to experiment. The previous image I thought there were three clashes, but the second look at the images showed the secret. The bow tie clash mark. I believe they two clashes happened at different times. The reason being the marks outside the column beyond the jaw. There looks like some sever cleaning there and then the second clash. I'm sure there will be other examples of the same year/die pair that are not off center. A clash only happens when no planchet is present. In this case the planchet was out of the collar, but the damaged had happened before this strike. Why? The dies only made the mark on the coin found and there was a planchet between the dies. So it is an off center/double clashed die. Always nice to find a bonus on a error. Just makes the coin more interesting.
