1887 IHC doubled die obverse
(DDO die-1 Snow-1 Breen 2010)
Not in great shape but it's a neat variety, almost a Chief.
(that's a scratch on the coin from the feather to the M)

I'm thinking this one is the chief of IHC DDOs for most cherry pickers
The 1873 doubled Liberty ones are the real Chief DDO of IHCs but I don't see many 1873 cents and when I do they don't have any liberty remaining or they cost a lot so this 1887 might be about the best DDO IHC that's likely to be cherried even from typical worn circs.

Nice pick up! I have cherried two of these--an XF45 off eBay and a F15 at a show. This is one of my favorite DDOs, and quite dramatic I'd say for dealers to let slip through. I know of one collector who found an 1873 DDO, but that's going to be pretty tough! I hear the 1865 "fancy 5" DDR is possible to pick up, but I haven't found one yet.

Gary: If you look at the bust, all devices are doubled. Nose, feathers, LIBERTY, hair and eyelid. So the profile may have been doubled before they added the letters on the devices. I think the hubbing was done in stages on the dies?

Good theory Coop.
Looks like that doubling on the lower nose might even show up on worn ones that you can't see liberty on. Maybe we can cherry a worn slug example LOL

Hang loose a bit, until I get my vice, and other "devices" set up. Then you can submit orders for the type of IHC you desire.

Btw, is that a die crack extending from a feather tip through the "M"? If so, it must be a later die state than my coins.
