My latest shop find. It has a few marks, but still an attractive coin! I spend a lot of time looking for these, and sometimes it pays off. This particular coin was minted in England (Heaton, Birmingham mint) for use in Australia.

Another very nice coin you have there. Great detail in the crown and the mustache tip/beard. I wonder what else that dealer has!
For anyone not familiar with this series, the "H" mint mark is on the "tails" side, above the date and the circular design but below the fancy scroll and "PENNY".
Compare the mintage of this coin (3.6 million) with that of a 1912-S Lincoln cent (4.4 million) and a 1912-P Lincoln (68 million).

Thanks Robert! Do you collect Aussie coins? I'm glad that dealers here in Cali don't care about Aussie coins...I can get these for near to nothing. Now here's a real "key": the 1915-H halfpenny, with a mintage of only 720K.
(color of photo isn't entirely accurate--it was hard to capture this deep, even brown)

The only "Aussie" coin I have is a 4-bit piece with Diana, and Chas.
Kurt what would you grade that penny at? I would go MS63.

Dick, that must be one of those modern coins I don't know about.
There is a little bit of wear on the crown of this one, so conservatively Aussie grading would be "gEF" (high EF). I would personally say more like aUNC due to the luster. Not a bad coin for $1.50, eh?

Hi kurt. as you can see, I need a lot of practice in grading Can coins. No harm done. You definitelt got your money's worth on that one. Re the "Aussie 4-bits, if I can locate it. I'll post a photo. have a nice day, because they are going to get much hotter. It goes without saying that they will be MUCH hotter, where I'm headed, one day!

Dick, I only learned conservative grading from the Aussie collectors--otherwise I'd say MS too if it weren't for the crown bands. But I'm sure the "next life" won't be run by the grading companies, even if I get "slabbed" in the process!

I do have some Aussie but not at all like the quality of coins you've posted here.
And you're right, my experience is that British/Canadian graders tend to be much more conservative than Americans. Not sure about Aussies though.
