Does this MM appear to be rotated? There is heavy die deterioation.

Rotated in it being inverted. That is impossible; you would have a "D" facing in the other direction.

OK, perhap's I should have stated that there is a split in the D to the NW.

Please explain in more detail about a rotated D.(Bad choice of words on my part) Thank's BJ

Rhubarb, it is actually "tilted", one way or the other. rorarted implies an extreme condition, and the "S" is the only one that will lend itself to that condition. It can also be tilted, or rotated CW, or CCW. Mostly a matter of semantics. I have wondered about the "tilted" description. I get the impression that it refers to the angle to the field. That would be my assumption.

Actually, the words 'rotated or tilted' are what the secondary punch on the mintmark is in relation to the first punch, and it can happen on any mintmark. Here is the information borrowed from the coppercoins web site that explains this:

Rotated.... Since it only shows the split on the top corner you might just imagine 2 Ds on top of eachother with a pivot point at the lower corner. If it rotates you only see the split on the top corner.
