I found a 1983-D struck on a copper planchet in a circulated roll while i was searching yesterday. It weighs 3.11 grams, anyone know the value of a coin like this? This is a cent

Patrick,
This could be a substantial find if authenticated as a 3.1g copper planchet. I believe it would be called a transitional cent. If your weight is absolutely correct, then I would think about getting it authenticated by a third party grading service. What condition is the coin in??
If it does prove to be a copper planchet, who knows what the price range could be.

My 1st impression was Great Find
My 2nd impression was 3.11 grams
My 3rd impression was something else to look for.

Let us know how it turns out!

Great find.

I think they already have existing ones from other years like 89-90.

Never heard of an 83-d so maybe it's the first.

They talked about them here:

See this issue about them:

Billy Crawford found a 1983 transitional cent a year or so ago. In uncirculated condition such a coin would be worth several thousand dollars.

It is nice that a "D" has been found. Philly has been showing up with everything but the kitchen sink! Maybe, now it is our, (West coast area), turn! Rolling Eyes
