It's the real thing!!!!!!!!!! Just kidding. It's the lighting giving off the redish tint. I wish it were a CU 43 Cent.

On the bright side.
With all those polishing lines showing and finish like that you can tell it was not replated
I get the same thing, if I photo these they often look copper.

Remember that the 1943 Steel Dies/Steel Planchets created a lot of wear on the Dies. Thus the very heavy die flow, device loss and die movement.
I usually get that color on silver colored coins. I just remove it with Photoshop.

Thank's Ed, Coop. I know my lighting isn't that keen on steel cent's. One day I will figure out photoshop. Do you have any idea about the MM or the Eye? I haven't heard from Bob in a while, Is he doing OK? Thanks

The eye looks normal for a strong die flow cent. The disentigration of the mint mark appears to be in both directions, so I would say just die wear.

Could it have an old hit on the eye?
The MM might be deterioration?

Looks like a bag mark on the top of the eyelid. I didn't see that before Ed mentioned it. Probably what David was looking at. Nothing to get excited about. It would be too minor if it was a doubled eyelid. Separation/spread should be stronger before noting it.

Thank's Ed and Coop again. I have attatched a closeup of the eye. I think it is a bag mark. But there is still the possibility of something else.

Hi Rhubarb,
I am still hanging around, but with all the great answers and suggestions here, I normally don't need to add to anything.
Been spending some time in Lousiana helping out after Gustav, and working hard during the week. Not enough hours in the day to do all what needs to be done.
