I think this is die #1. The only marker that I can see is the die scratch on his head.

I think so.

Can you get a pic showing the lapel?
It shows well there on this die.

That's the one!
Pretty easy to see on the lapel.

I had some old coin magazines and back when it was newly dicovered they were selling them for $189, after that they dropped but you still don't see many of them.

Nice little D mint cousin of the big 55 Smile

Garry,
The lapel on this variety shows very nice doubling. That's what you are seeing in the pic OCD posted. BTW Garry...I sent you a private message about this thread. Please take a look.

It's an interesting die.

It's a class 4. The stronger (probably second) hubbing is shifted east relative to the center but not rotated.

This one is also a class 8 tilted hub so I'm GUESSING that the reason it does not show on LIBERTY or the motto is the tilt made it show best on the north/east area of the die. ?

Since class 8 is only tilted you might not see anything on a class 8 unless the next hubbing also has a problem (different class of doubling like this one also had class 4) because if the second hubbing is correct it should totaly hide the first partial tilted hubbing. ?

Any inputs? Sound right?

This doubled die is a very nice one, but is somewhat common. I usually don't fail to find one out of every 100 coins (two circ rolls) of 1955D cents.

Two other even more common yet nice die varieties for 1955D are 1955D-1MM-002 and 1955D-1MM-004. These are quite common yet still make a nice addition to a collection.
