I had found only 1 pre-1940 Canadian cent while searching throughout my numismatic career, and iit was a 1935... and in real nice condition. I sold it about a year ago to a Canadian snowbird visiting for the winter who just had to have it. I offered to just give it to her, but she insisted on giving me a fee. Well today, out of a roll from Florida of all places, I found another 1935 Canadian cent. This one is in much nicer condition than the last one. How's this for a (way) south of the border find??

Wow it's in nice shape for being in circulation, it must have been resting in a drawer for most of it's career.

Bob, that is a nice one! I have several, but all are very dark, from circulation. I wonder, if people washed their hands before handling coins, that it might make them look nicer?

very nice for a circulation find! Judging by the crown band and mint luster, it looks to be a good XF.

Very nice find! I agree... XF or very near it. Detail at the mustache tip as well.
Finds like that make me wonder how on earth it ended up not circulating much in Canada and then surfacing in a roll in a bank in Florida 70+ years later. If coins could talk...
Compare the mintage of the Canadian 1935 cent (7.5 million) to the United States 1935-P cent (245 million +). And that doesn't include 1935-D (47 million) or 1935-S (38.7 million).
In my opinion, one of these days Canadian (and other foreign coins) will be "discovered" and will really take off in price. When that day comes, look out!

Robert, that is a nice thought. It also seems to be moving toward that ntion in Canada, from the general interest, and chit-chat on the verious forums there. They are becming more aware of the different things, that coins have, beside a portrait. I wanted to learn to make overlays, so I could show the clash remnant sources, but can't get the hang of it yet, but one day.....I have gne into Canadian cents, abd have a lot of them, all in tubes, and some in albums, folders. There are more, and more of the US collectors going that way, too, which in time will more than likely, cause just what you say. That will be nice. I hope to still be around when that day comes!
It could be that it has set in someones "chane jar, for any years. My neighbor just found out I collect pennys, and has an off venter nickel, that He wondered if it was worth anythng. I posted it, and gave him the answers given me. Yesterday he said he has a jar of wheats that he has had for a long time. Maybe I'll get to see them.

I have to believe that the influx of Canadians here during the winter months is how this one made it down here. The rolls I was searching were actually picked up in April. I have made friends with a few of them who stay in this sub-division and when they come back down this winter, they are supposed to bring me a jar or two to search through that they have had for years. I can hardly wait to expand my horizons by looking through those jars!

Going by Canuck grading it's no better than VF.

I'm pretty familiar with Canadian grading and I respectfully differ. George V coins have some easy datapoints to compare and assign grade. Since I can clearly see all 8 pearls in the crown band, as well as luster remaining in the legend, this is an easy XF. VF coins only show 6 pearls, while retaining the four edges of the diamond. I have no doubts that ICCS would assign EF40.
There's a lot of difference of opinion over Canadian grading, and US dealers often wildly overgrade their inventory, which is why using Canadian grading sources is important. Here's an online source I use.

If all 8 pearls are visible then that picture doesn't represent the coin well. I can make out the normal 6 for a VF, but the 2nd pair from the left does not appear to be there.

Now for the second opinion: The pair of pearls, directly above, and behind the ear, are visible, but just barely. The pair in front, and diirectly above the ear, are almost a figment of my imagination. I give it a grade of VF-30, at best. I just checked the Can grading, and it is, so-so.
