Tonight I had a wonderful discovery. Looking through some misc. coins this evening,
I chanced upon a Canadian large cent that was given to me by a dealer because his shipment was late.
It's been sitting around for at least a year without notice, until I decided to shoot a picture tonight,
and saw something within the H mintmark.
Checking my books, I discover this was an RPM, where a large H was punched over a smaller H. It's very distinctive on the coin.
Funny how I had written this one in my book to search the show tomorrow, only to find one at home!

I really like the Canadian Large Cents. Thats cool if thats what it is. The picture is somewhat vague, it looks like a hit inside the H.

I've now included a shot from my QX5, showing some of smaller mintmark.
Even at 60X, the scope doesn't get everything from one lighting angle.

Kurt, I looked at it with the "XP Magnifier, X3, and couldn't tell much, but $X shows more detail, and it klooks like an RPM, H/H East. What do you come up with? I sure wish my large cents were as nice as that one! Mine are all very dark. I din't have that date, early '90'-'20, with a blank, or two.

Dick, Garry--thanks!
I think what happened is they first used a smaller H punched intended for a different series, then carefully repunched over with an H normal for cents--would that be an E displacement? I like it whatever you call it!
I'm happy I caught this...in just the right light, I saw it through my macro lens. I'm guessing the grade here is XF40-45, leaning towards the better grade. Some of the lack of hair detail may be strike.

Kurt, I'm not sure what one would call it, a re-pinched MM, or an over-pinched MM. The indication I got was that the first was East of the present. Not important, tho. The actuality is what counts, and it in a nuice looking coin. Congratulations! It always pays to go back, even iof it is for nothing more than th "be sure"!

Just going back to try and "proof-read my posts, I still miss a lot, and sometimes "add-to". If one didn't know of my affliction, it would seem that I am trying to "re-write history, with the worsds that come out! Sheesh!
