Looks like my luck held out for another day. I found four of these, last night. all BU. Bob, they will be headed your way, or at least one, for verivication, and maygbe an earlier die state. I'll admit, some of the rest of the coins in that roll have some very badly worn dies The one(s) with the DDO, all show a very severe clash repair, (apparently, from the amount of polishing that is visible in the penthouse area), and a new(er) obv die used. I aklso found a -003, now that I think about it. It was very late, last night. Going back to the reverse polishing, the statue on one is nothing more than a few high spots, left from the polishing. I'll edit this post with a picture
This is what I refer to, as "over-polishing:
Note the interior of the bays, mostly in the center, where the die is most "worked".

Congrats on the finds Dick. I know what you mean about over polishing. I have a couple of coins where the statue is about gone too. Let us know if you find anything else...OK?

Bob, I mentioned the four '68S,-002, and a 003. I will be sending one, or some of them to you later. More like one, to give a clean shot, with maybe a EDS. The coins are BU, but the die srtate is worn. some of them have the bays so shallow, they are almost to the front of the steps.
Git a bunch of 68-D's to check. I'll let you klnow if I get some fot you.
I knew there was something I wanted to ask you. On the '68's, I notice that the planchet seems to be wrong, ot something. because the rim is mangled on nearly every one I have checked, so fasr. Do what can you attribute that to? I'm sure you wwill be getting some of these "S"s.

Dick,
Just about all 1968 coins seemed to have been struck by old or worn dies, or maybe the master hubs were about worn out. That is why you see where the letters of the motto are right up against the rim (with some cases of a 'bar' above the letters), and the letters/numbers are mushier and thicker than what I would consider normal. 1969 saw a design change which eliminated the problem. There are plenty of DDOs for the 68 PDS, and they all appear to be the same type. I found over the years that a good pick up point for the doubled dies was the bottom of the S in TRUST.

Dick,
On 68 cents I often see lots of metal dust/debris stuck near the rim.
Seems like the dies were worn and lot's of metal planchet debris.
Recently I found one that had a dropped T of trust stuck below the motto but it fell off LOL

Bob, Ed, Kurt, and Teri Good WINDY evening! I thought,(because they were marked as '68-D), that I had thre and a half tubes of '68-D. Turned out there is only one, and a half tubes of '68's. The other two are '58-D. I might get lucky, again. All are BU. Today has been pretty hectic. First I had to make the bed. Then I went thru my wifes change. (She always has about ten pounds in her purse. Turned up one OK quarter, two Jeffersons and a FDR. The Lincolns are pending. Had to stop to eat. Just trying to get my desk ready for the ingoming wheats, and IHC's tomorrow. Gonna be HOT this weekend, (mid 90's! I hate that, because my hands, (fingers) get so dry that I can't hold onto the coins! Tghe humidity goes down to the single digits, and the wildfires come up! Ask Opra Winfrey, her house is in the middle of the fire. Don't know oif it was damaged, but there were over 100 other houses burned to the ground. Hmmm, I wonder how much damage these fires can be to coins? I know it will melt siilver. Anyway, back to the '58's Have a nice evening,
Dick

Could someone help me out and give a hint where I should look for the DD--in the bays?

Hi Kurt
I believe he was just showing the deteration of the rev die. The doubling on the obv is very strong and easy to spot. By the way Dick nice find there . I have found a few in the past in a couple different die states. I sent 1 of the earlier die states i had to Bob a couple years back
Regards
Eric

Kurt, I agree with Coop. I haven't seen a statue on a '68 that was in good enough condition to tekll id there is/was any doubling.
