I believe that is the Snow 2 version you are referring to. If you have access to Rick Snow's book on 1900-1909 cents, he has a photo in there that is identified as the Snow 1 RPM but is actually the Snow 2 RPM. He had some heartburn over that editing mistake.
He does not have a photo of the S-2 in his website, but I think he has also made a mistake in his description of the 1908-S, S-2 in his link. The 8/8 variety is actually the 1908 S-2 at the top of the page

Thanks Garry,
Unfortunately, I do not have access to his book. I could've sworn I saw a photo of the S-2 somewhere, but can't seem to recall where. Here are some pics of what I have.

Hi,
I have Snow's attribution guide, and I went by his online site to see if there were any corrections.
Here's where the confusion probably arose, as there are different S-2 for the Philadelphia coin and the SF coin:
Regular issues (San Francisco Mint)
1908-S S1 S/S (s) RPM-001
1908-S S2 8/8 (e). RPD-001
Perhaps you've seen the page I've linked to, where he lists a pic for the S-1 RPM, but it's an MS coin that's not representative of Jon's picture. The S-1 in my book looks very similar to the mm on your 1908-S.

Kurt,
I checked his site out also. What's more confusing is the picture on his site has a note stating the picture in the book is incorrect. So, if the picture in the book is wrong, what variety is that one? I also figured out where I saw the other picture... right here on coppercoins home page where Chuck has a photo of a particular coin followed by some interesting info.

Yeah, I see that now....I have the 2000 book, and that photo appears to be a different mm. Now I don't know what to think either...

This is one of my favorite coin subjects. I have two of the 1908 S Snow 1 cents. One is the one that appears on the home page of this site. Chuck photographed it for me.
When I purchased the 1900 - 1909 Rick Snow volume in 2002, I went to the 1908 S page and noticed that he had a photo of the 1908 S S2 RPM. That is the coin John posted above. I emailed Mr. Snow and oddly enough, he was not aware that there was a mistake. Unfortunately I cannot find that email. He said he intended to correct the photo in a subsequent edition. And yes, his notes on the wiki page describing a 1908 S S2 8/8 actually is referring to the 1908 8/8 cent.

Thanks for the info, Garry, just what I needed. This is my only 1908 S and for it to be the S2 RPM as well makes it all the more special.

Those RPMs are relatively scarce. Rick has said that he has handled about 10 of the 1908 S S1. I purchased one from him that graded AU55. I have another that I bought from Harlan Berk's in Chicago that has a little verdigris on the reverse so it wont slab. That is the one pictured on the home page here. That is also an AU55 (details). I dont have information on the scarcity of the S2.
And I looked at the Wiki information page again. The 1908 S2 8/8 RPD is listed correctly at the top of the 1908 page. Then listed again as a 1908S S2. Poor guy, the coin was minted in San Francisco only one year, and he gets his S's mixed up !! Maybe he should change his last name to Psnow and use P1 and P2..... for his attributions
Also my somewhat funny story, I might as well relate again. I gave my Rick Snow S1 to NGC at a coin show to slab and attribute. They took it and took an extra $7.50 for the attribution. It came back without the S1 attribution. When I called them and asked, the guy said they dont attribute Snow numbers. I said well why the heck did your rep take my $7.50? He said we credited your card. So I said, well if I knew you didnt attribute Snow numbers I wouldnt have given it to you!! Duhhh!
