Check it out....I picked up $7 worth of bank rolled Lincolns Wednsday before I headed home for the Christmas weekend. The 4th roll I got into had this 1925s Wheatie in it!!!! While I do normally find a few wheats in a group like this, I mostly find 1940's - 1950's stuff. I think the oldest I had ever found was a twenties "P" mint that I could barely recognize. By far the nicest mint mark, date, condition coin I have found.....yet!! A nice VF coin. Makes you wonder if the grand kids pocketed grandpa's coin collection and spent it??!?

Cheers,
JAY

Jay...That is an exciting find...but I believe it can be even more exciting than you think. Take a look here and do a little comparison, and let us know what you find out Laughing

I think it may be the doubled die as Bob suggested.

Look at the 5, on the top horiz bars east edge how it ramps downward and the wideness on the 2 + 5. Also the mintmark position looks like it matches and the vertical spines on the letters of LIBERTY are curved and the lower horizontal of the E of WE has the ramp.

That makes me almost sure you found the DDO 1DO-001.

The only thing I can't see well in the photo is the 19 to see if it matches but I think it will if you focus on that area.

Must have been your holiday find!!!!

Smile

The mint mark locations match on an overlay. I'd say this is from the same die. Nice find!
1925S-1DO-001!

Jay, you sure made a nice entry to the forum! Congrats. I have been looking for that one, since it is my birth-year. I'm glad you found it! Now I know where it is! LOL

WOW. Thanks guys. I did of course look for the RPM and did notice the "fat" numbers on the date, but just blew it off as circulation wear.
I'm not a real big fan of the "extra thickness" doubled dies, so I don't normally look for them, in fact I was not even aware of the 25s.
Guess this changes my attitude!!

Looking at the coin a bit more, since you all woke me up, I definately see some seperation in the SW corner of the 2 and the "other" bottom of the 2 is evident.

Coop, I would love to see the overlay. Can you post it?

Thanks for your help folks, I really mean it.
This is one reason I really enjoy this hobby, most everyone shares their knowledge willingly.

Cheers,
JAY

Jay: Sorry I've dumped it, but it was an exact match. The date and mint mark matched exactly making it from that one die. If you could take an image of the area around the date closer up, then I could redo the image larger for you to see it better.
