i have a 1970 something penny with a number 2 engraved in it the 2 is not raised. the 2 is on the obverse side and there are no raised places on the reverse side opposite the 2 the two this size 2 any ideas would be good and i will try to get pictures yet it is hard to hold the magnifying glass and camera still enough at the same time to get a non moving picture
Sounds like a counterstamped cent, most have some meaning but figuring them out is sometimes a challenge.
What you might see is a smashed area on the opposite side from when they stamped it.
The simpler the counterstamp the harder it is to figure out the meaning.
looks pretty close to the one with the s on it but if i remember correctly it is to the left of lincolns head above liberty il have to find it and get a picture up

Coud be someone with nothing to do but try out the new set of alphabet letters, and numbers. So where? On a penny! Never mind that it is dated 1909-S VDB, of course! A stamp collector might not relate to that date coin.
