Here's a recent find, which looks very similar to an 1861/57 owned by another collector. When studying overdates, I'll take shots from several different lighting angles to pick out the underlying details. Does anyone notice anything different to the other 1861/57? (second photo)
This is a confirmed 1861/57 from another collector:
For starters, how about the spacing of the digits 61?

Kurt, It is hard for me to judge the spacing, but do you think the last "1" is dofferent than the first? Check the top, left part for a different shape. Could be wear, or maybe a hit. I had some unusual, and unexpected luck today with my coin dealer. I went in and checked the IHC, found only an'08. I don't know if it is an "S", or not. I haven't put it on the scope. After looking thru the IHC, I then started thru the foreign coins dish, and had about half a dozen checked, for date, and point of origin, when my "ride came in after me. I paid for the few that I had set aside, and as a joke, told the owmner that What I would be willing to do is leave a deposit on the batch, and lte him know how many I keep out of the batch. He looked at me, and said, That is a good idea! Thjat way you can check them on your scope, and bring back what you don't want. I asked how much? He said, Twent bucks. I said thanks, and handed him the money, and thanked him. He said I'll see you next trip! How many will go that route? Not many, I would say.
I checked a few and found a 1, 2 , and 5 /0RE coins. All late dates. I'll let you see some of what comes out.
Later:
Kurt, I can't open the "thing" to repply to your opverlay result. I hope you spot this....
I was thinking. Would it be any more difficult to onerlay the entire date, to, A. check the spacing, ( which it quite visible). and check to see if in fact it is two different dies. And B. to see if the same "gang punch, or Rack" was used with the same "1" for the RPD. I am not making much headway, trying to explain m,yself, but I think you get the gist, and maybe note that. I think there might be two different "1" puinches used, with the same gang punch, on two different dies.
Dick

Hi Dick,
Thanks! I see that on the last 1 of my coin--a slightly different shape to my eyes too. Between the two coins, the "61" spacing is definitely different on both coins, so I wouldn't think die state can account for that. The last 1 on my coin is also lower than the other.
It sounds like you got a good deal there! Have fun looking through those! In terms of Sweden overdates, I know of these:
5 Ore: 1858/7, 1861/57, 1876/5, 1882/1, 1916/3
2 Ore: 1858/7, 1906/5, 1916/5, 1915/3
1 Ore: 1858/7, 1912/1, 1913/2, 1915/3

Dick,
To show the difference, I did an overlay of the date on both coins.
By scaling the "186" of the date on one coin to closely match the underlying coin, there's a clear difference in the distances between 61 in the date, as shown by the white and black arrows. Since my coin has noticeably closer spacing, I can only guess it's a different die. There must be two different 1861/57 dies. Cool, huh?
