I just found a roll in my stash of 1955S Lincolns All BU or most of them anyway. It appears that the previous owner had one goal and one only. Cherry pick the BIE coins. Everything I am finding in this roll is either a BIE of one type or another or a clogged date and or mint mark. What he did not see know or look for were the Doubled Die possibilities on these coins. Unless Coppercoins has some in the wings that they have not had time to post there are only 4 posted. CONECA has only two posted. I am not even half way through the roll yet but with any luck I will be able to double that number at least the prospects look good. Can I suggest that just because you find a BIE variety on a coin don't stop looking and check the reverse also. I know for sure I have a nice Doubled wheat stem on both stalks.Happy Hunting~lucky2

Robert,
There aren't a lot of known doubled dies for 1955S. I myself do not have any for that year and mintmark (kinda hard to believe huh?) I believe there is a known doubled eyelid for the obverse, but no listed doubled dies for a reverse. If you have one with a doubled stem, then it is well worth verifying, photographing and putting it on the site.

Another thing to add...there are many of the mid 50s years where die breaks, blobs, BIEs etc are the markers for known doubled dies...especially 1957D. I agree with you totally that no one should ignore the rest of the coin once they spot a filled letter or BIE. I am also finding out over time that the reverse Class 6 of wheaties is the most overlooked doubled die. I have about 600-700 class 6 DDRs myself. It is probably the most 'findable' doubled die out there in bulk wheats.
