I have been tweaking the price guide for all Lincoln cent die varieties over the past six hours - just one of many things I needed to get done that I have finally started on, and it needed it - really badly!
In many cases, I had to more than double the MS values for most of the wheat RPMs from 1941-1958 JUST to match or exceed the values for normal BU cents. Some of these are WAY up in value since 2001 when I first built this guide.
In at least a couple of blatant cases, the values for the big doubled dies had to be increased from double to triple what was in the guide - embarassing that it went this long. 1955P-1DO-001 showed a value of $400 in F. Well, it's actually $1,200 and climbing. That's one of the worst undervaluations I noticed in the guide.
Anyhow, values have mostly been increased from AU on up - many of the F-EF values were rather consistent with current market trends. You will definitely notice some skewed values for the die varieties now, because the BU values, especially for GEM BU, have gone WAY up!
I consider the price guide now to be more than 75% accurate, whereas yesterday I would have called it about 10% accurate. Baby steps...

Thanks!
I'm sure it takes a lot of effort to do it.

Okay...I haven't counted every price I changed, but it has to be over 10,000 prices changed in the past two days of work. I have increased nearly all GEM prices to AT LEAST match or exceed the value of a GEM coin in that issue. Sad that a die variety would be worth LESS than the nomral coin of the issue.
Additionally, I have increased the value of ALL wheat cent die varieties to a very bare minimum of $1 per coin per grade. This affects mostly late-date wheats in F condition, where some of them had been valued at less than a dollar per coin. If the die can be identified without a doubt, and the coin is a wheat cent, it's worth at least a dollar.
I have also corrected a number of discrepancies in valuation that had been in the data for a long time. Some prices used commas, some had two decimal points, and some values were lower for higher grades...all of this to my knowledge has now been corrected.
At some point in the near future I HAVE to get to work on the price guide issue to make it more consistent with the value of the actual coins. I will be working on this over the coming months, and plan to issue a printed price guide for die varieties in the Lincoln cent series within the quarter. Let me know if you would be interested in a printed copy of this guide.

Yes Chuck, I would appreciate the effort for you to provide a printable list.
I also have a request, if your previous price/value list was accurate at the time you posted it, minus the typos, leave those values available for comparison. Maybe identify them as past values overall, not necessarily individually. This would give me and other collectors the ability to see the big gainers, and assuming they continue gaining at a similar rate in the future.
I am a collector, but I like being able to plan for the future.

A link to that list would prove to be beneficial for those that are interested.

Thanks for all your hard work!
I agree with most, and coop in particular, with this comment:
There are those of us who are limited in what we can do for any given time, so as coop suggests, a link, that would allow one to log on, and if necessary, or bneeded as the case may be, to be able to print out a copy of these changes. That way, a check periodily would give those new changes made. Personally, i don't sell, nor plan to sell, but it would be nice to be able to evaluate one's collection, now and then. IMHO.

The price guide is something I would be interested in - especially if you included variety cross-reference information for CONECA, WEXLER, CRAWFORD and COPPERCOINS.
I have a spreadsheet with a cross reference - but hasn't been updated for several years which you can have - if interested.

I don't know if any of you even noticed, but this work done by Chuck, and this original post was from January. Given the state of the economy, and the sagging sales just about everywhere, I don't know how accurate, even these changes, would be.

They would not be accurate...and yes, these changes too effect nearly a year ago.
I am working on a way to be able to change the whole price guide to a more automatically updated price guide. We will have to see whether it works well in testing before I can publish it - about two months away.

People have some good ideas but I think it may be too big an expectation for any price guide.
On thing that I noticed at a few recent shows is that not many collector coins were selling. The big action seemed to be silver.
Not easy to judge prices in a market like this especially for varieties.

With the market the way it is only the rarest of errors and varieties will sell the best... If all the economist are correct the market should start recovery next spring... Hopefully the coin prices will already be in recovery... Maybe the upcoming holidays will give a minor boost but I do not really see that happening... People are still looking for that big discount!!!
