You guys continue to supply great info and advice, it should have occurred to me the claim to be bank wrapped or original rolls cant have happened that long ago.

Yep, BJ has helped this find to turn out on the bright side, and the IHC repunched date has been in my keeping since my grandma gave it to me, without me knowing of the variety.

Now I am torn between holding onto the variety coins I find for my sons fortune later, or trying to let them go on Ebay now to finance some other more well known numismatic item for them.

Phil, you might do both. Save some for your sons, and use some for your current, or future interests. I went from the lincoln varieties to the FE/IHC, and then I really got Into the deep stuff! Victorian large cents. Now there are a lot of varieties, like over 400 in 1859, alone!

Very little work done, and published, and a lot of unknowns thru-out.
There is quite a bit of research going on, at this moment. I know several who are already many years into the topic, and still working.

Good advice Dick.
In my wandering on the net, when I come across large cents or old canadian cents I wonder what would Dick think of this one?

I am daunted by the many varieties in the Lincolns alone, to begin searching coin series with unknowns and no good references would be quite a challenge.

Have a good one, good luck.

Thank you, Phil!
I will be posting some of the ones that I think are interesting, and might be enjoyed by others.
We can't all have Bob, BJ, and Chuck, and a data base, like we enjoy here.

The advice to check a seller's other auctions is a very good one.

There was a seller I saw once who had literally dozens of "OBW" rolls with key/semi-key/IHC coins on both sides.

EVERY ROLL.

Yeah right. But people who don't follow the adage "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" were bidding like there was no tomorrow.

Just like the "unopened" proof and mint sets for sale. It's too easy to open and reseal those things. "Unopened proof/mint set"? No such animal.

I may be pretty cynical about some things, but it has sure saved me a lot of money.

I consistantly check the sellers other things, (store, etc). I have found some pretty good items there.
