I have to tell you that you've hit on one of my sore areas - as far as I know there are MANY--MANY different dies in 1964D that exhibit minor serif splitting, and VERY few of them have ever been recognized by anyone. I myself have hundreds of them (not all different) that eventually need attention, but there have been so many other things of greater importance, this subject has fallen into the deep casm of "back burner" issues.
Sorry for the at least temporary inconvenience, but this die, like all the others, will have to go into a tube for later examination. I really wish there were a magic switch to flip, but alas there isn't. Let's leave it that there are a number of unlisted varieties in this date, and this fact is known to coppercoins, and that something will be done about it when we can get to it.
The original plan, and one that I plan to implement as time permits, is a general audience sounding for certain dates and mints at certain times where everyone involved will hone in on that date and mint as we get to it, and send in all the examples they have that they have not yet identified so we can work on the larger group as a pool. Believe me, 1964P and D cents will be one such group, and I expect a large outpouring of examples when this time does come.
