As if that is any guarantee. I think they put on the slabs what the submitter said. You could send in a 1955 DDO and not tell them and they would slab it as a regular Cent, just because you didn't mention it. Haven't heard back from Bob on my ebay auction. Wondered what he thought before I submit it.

Great job Bob! Your reasoning with that seller saved somebody from a hammer job and the seller might even have learned.

Too bad we can't go back in time and train the first guy that ever used the awful term "poor mans DDO" and tell him it's a "poor mans minor strike double" or something other than DDO. The term "poor mans DDO" has been published in so many places it just won't go away. Those coins get so much attention and the term send a lot of new collectors into confusion from the start mixing strike doubling with real DDOs.

This site is like medicine to cure that kind of thinking.

Ed- I think that the person that came up with the term "poor mans double die" did it on purpose to confuse the collecting community. After finding tons of these coins, he needed a way to promote them, so that is what he called them.

Im surprised that after 50 years, people are still falling for what is just strike doubling.

Always buy the book before the coin.

Great analysis on the 1995 altered cent. I know very little about unplated cents, and would have probably taken the seller's word. I know not to buy this stuff raw, but now can tell the difference from the real deal and the fake stuff a bit better.

I was going to run an auction in Ebay about that very subject. I had the auction wording ready and the images, but Bob didn't think that would be the venue for it. So do you and to see what I've come up with??

1991unplated lincoln cent error-look!!!

I can't tell much about the 2005, however, take a look at the 1991 and see the lines that look like molten metal. Also the hollowed out look of the letters, especially on the C and A of AMERICA. CHEMICAL MANIPULATION.

Interesting..... You can still see the bubbles in the plating on the 1991. Both look cooked. Someone who gets them will be unhappy when they find out they are fake.

Bob: I know how you feel. Most of the time spell-check is the only way I can make corrections on a regular basis. My wife says I only have two faults.

Believe it or not, I thought about the "errors" that I made all last night, LOL. Spelling isn't my thing either Coop and the spell check is a life saver. Well anyway, got it corrected.

Just click "EDIT", then copy it all into your email program, spell check it, then copy it back into your post/s.

Works for me, or just write it up in and email and copy to post/s on the inital posting/s.

Haven't be posting to much of late ... looking at all these new coins ... hehehe.

pennyhound...now why would we want to do something so sensible like spell checking? I love it when I try to figure out what other people 'meant' to say...including myself!

When I use spell check on my emails and word programs, I seem to be misspelling the same word over and over, but still can't breat the bad habit. one word is separate. (I want to spell it seperate.) Can't shake that one.
