Anyone who posts here is eligible if they know something about copper-based coinage and like to write about it. Almost any subject is up for grabs, and I am accepting articles for the new home page of the web site, due for release in September. The design is near completion and needs to be filled with news, stories, and know-how. Regardless of who you are or what you do for a living, if you can write about copper coins, your knowledge of copper coins, you collection of copper coins, or your memory of collecting copper coins as a youth, let me know!

Chuck, I sent you an article for you to look at and use on the new home page if you think it's worth it. I have a couple more in the works.

I haven't specifically thought of a deadline because publication can happen at any time after I get the new home page finished and online. I will be writing enough to at a minimum fill the area that needs to be filled, so whenever anyone else wants to submit something they are welcome to.
That's one of the good things about the internet - since it's not in print, it doesn't have to be published all at once.

I just wanted everyone to know that the offer is still out on anyone who wants to be published on the site. Get your article ideas to me as soon as you think of them - as soon as I give the green light, you can start writing them. This will alleviate a potential problem of having a number of people write on the same thing.

Do they have to be exclusively about copper? And is foreign OK?

Yes, since this is essentially a copper site, they do need to be about copper in some shape or form. Foreign is fine as long as it doesn't overpopulate the US coin focus. Articles that compare foreign to US are even better...for instance, why the governments of the British Commonwealth countries waited so much longer than the US to get rid of their large size coppers.

A long time ago we talked about an article on elongates. I am still interested. I need to do some research and maybe I can cook something up. That Coinage article I sent you is the only source I have found so far and that has little of the historical technical perspective I was looking for. I think it would be nteresting to know how the elongates were first made at the Chicago Columbian Exposition, (WCE) why all denominations were elongated at the WCE and only cents were elongated 36 years later at the Chicago Worlds Fair. What did the machines look like? How many were there? all that would be important information.

Garry - That sounds like a great topic, and I would be very interested in seeing what you write about it. Like I said, anything of interest to copper collectors!
