Does anyone know if there was a master die issue with split serifs on the obverse of the 1950D jefferson nickels. I found a few that have the Gs, Ss, and Ts split and was wondering if this has been discussed before.
Thanks, Steven

Steven,
You are correct about the possibility of it being some sort of Master die doubling. The following information comes from CONECA and I believe it is a catch all for some obverse doubling. HOWEVER...certain dies are specific doubled dies. Someone with better experise in Jefferson Nickels may be able to tell the difference.
"Medium spread on TRUST and light on LIB of LIBERTY"
"The 1939 master die was doubled; a class V doubled master die. It was then used to create a hub from which the last two digits (39) were removed. That modified hub was then used to make a master die in which the last two digits (40) were punched. It was used in subsequent years (1941-1944, 1946-1956, 1959-1964) by punching into the master die the appropriate last two digits."
