Awhile back, when I first strated collecting coins, I ran across this coin at an antique show and thinking that it was a Silver Eagle, I got it for $5.00. Now the question is "what is it"

Lol, it looks like a troy ounce of pure silver.
For $5, you got a good deal, now, that round must be worth a wopping $10!! Not a bad investment!

BJ...It's what they call a silver round. Usually they depict anything from animals, to old coins etc. Don't know which silver company made that particular one, but the design of the Standing Liberty Quarter from 1916 is one of my favorites. I am not so sure if you know or not, but in 1917, public resentment of Miss Liberty's breast showing, (like on your coin)made them redesign the coin so that she was covered up.

That is a nice copy of the SLQ. Nice toining too. Unless it is larger than a standard quarter, I wonder how many people have tried to tool the 8 into a 1 and pass it off as a 1916?

Reverse is a real give away on this one. Still a coin that most collectors would take in silver even if it was the wrong size. I would say very collectable as everyone wants one of the type 1 standing Liberty Quarters. A real bargain for that price.
