Hi Folks...Thought I would share my newest discovery with you. First...A little background. Prior to a couple of months ago, there had never been any varieties reported for 1916 cents. I discovered the possible 1916S triple repunched mintmark that was featured in the June 21st edition of the Numismatic News. That variety (1916S-1MM-001) can be seen here:
http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1916&die_id=1916s1mm001&die_state=mds
Today, I discovered another variety for 1916. This time it is a P mint class 6 reverse. It is also on the site now and can be seen here:
http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1916&die_id=1916p1dr001&die_state=mds
As always, it is too bad the coins weren't in better shape. Once again, I remind everyone that new varieties can be found ...even on coins that are 89 years old. Good luck with your searching.
If anyone is able to find a better example of either of those varieties, I would love to put the pics of the better coin on the site, and possibly find markers for them. Please email me and let me know...OK??

If you could get a pic that is a little closer to the mintmark area, I could tell a little bit more. Right now, It looks like a contact mark of some sort. I think a close-up will help me make a better determination for you.

Or it may be a die gouges or a extremely worn die.

In looking at the image look at the S. You might think it is a RPM, but look at the 19 in the Date. The die is just worn out.
Check Page # 54 in the "Looking through Lincoln Cents" book for a good explination on what is happening with that die.
