As you peruse through the new additions area you will notice that we have begun to add class 9 doubled die reverse moderns that show doubling in and around the statue in the center of the memorial reverse design. Like wavy steps, these rather minor doubled dies are an exciting way to keep the tradition of finding doubled dies in new coins alive. They aren't proven to be worth very much yet, and are rather easy to find with a little effort. In a recent plug through a $25 box of circ cents I found over a roll of these little gems.
Over the past week I have contacted a consortium of die variety specialists asking them to help come to an agreement as to what would be listed and what would not. The group of five experts came up with the following requirements for listing "column pieces" doubled dies:
1. If only one column is doubled, the doubling must be at least the length of the leg of the statue from knee to foot.
2. If any part of the statue is doubled with a column it is listable.
3. If doubling shows on more than one column, it is listable.
4. Special consideration may be given to odd placement of doubling and minor ones that are coupled with other unrelated doubling or obverse doubling.
We have begun to list these doubled dies. Here are a couple of examples:
Very cool Chuck. I have been keeping all the ones I have found, and have tons laying around somewere. I will sure begin to organize them and see if any can get added to the site. _________________ -Gabe
