A Miami coin dealer pleaded guilty to "defrauding $400,000 on eBay". According to the article, authorities received more than 188 complaints of fraud from may 2001 through January 2005. He had been arrested for fraud twice before but he continued to sell under various names.

So $400,000 divided by 188 is over $2000 per complaint. More unreported cases may have occurred but it appears to me that most of the cases involved significant amounts of money.

Per July 3 Coin World, page 68.

Be careful. And do the right thing.

I agree...Unscrupulous idiots like this one make it difficult for anyone to trust a seller on EBay. Feed backs are a farce too. It seems vindictiveness is prevalent on EBay too. I hope he gets what he deserves, but chances of that happening are slim. He was caught before, but still managed to sell under other names.

Just as an FYI I wanted to let everyone know about a fraud I experienced on Ebay. I sold a 1941P DDO. The buyer paid by echeck and PayPal told me to wait and not ship the item till they told me the check had cleared. I waited 4 days and they sent me a message the payment had cleared and it was ok to ship. I shipped the item and 4 days later received a message fom PayPal they were reversing the payment. They required me to send them the shipping tracking info and then refused to honor it because they said the method of shipping did not comply with their requirements. Ebay and PayPal are very poor when there is a problem. Never accept echecks for payment.
