Hi Jack, those clashes are very common on Morgan Dollars. The clash, of course, refers to the obverse and reverse dies hitting each other without a planchet in there, so the high point details from each die are impressed or transferred to the other die. Maybe someone can superimpose an obverse picture of a Morgan over a reverse picture to show where the clash marks were applied.

If you want to trace the clash mark on the right (the very visible V shaped mark) flip the Morgan back and forth a few times and you will see that mark is from where the cap meets the hair on the portrait of Liberty. The clash mark under "God" is where the neck meets the chin. 1889 P Morgans are nicely struck coins and sometimes show some nice color. Here is mine.

Thanks Jack, I also enjoy hearing from you and your interesting information. You put a real nice picture up there too. Hang on to that Morgan. Its a nice conversation piece.

These are the clashes everyone likes to have.

This is the 1891-O E clash. The E from Liberty on the head\band clashed with the reverse and impressed the E (and a bit of the R under the tailfeathers. There are also 1886-O , 1888-O and 1884 P dollars with the E clash and they are not necessarily very expensive. on the 1891-O, the E shows up on very low grade specimens.

Here is a very nice one. The 1891-O with the E reverse is impossible to find in mint state.

and another in a more common condition

Actually a die clash results in the fields touching the fields of the opposite die. The higher details of the coin are deep into the die, so the outline of the deeper parts of the dies leave marks in each others fields. So where the fields outline touched, they leave a mark on each other.

Garry that 1891O you posted from Ebay is a real nice coin.
I wish I could say the same for my 2 1891O with the E Clash reverse. One of mine is Low Good and the other Fine. I have been spending some time in the Morgans this week and found the 2 with the E, didn't even know I had that VAM.

Coop Good to hear from you and look forward to your comments
any time.

Jack the first two in my post are mine. The second is AG3 at best and the clash shows up clear as ever.
